Justice Mark Chidiebere, a prominent Nigerian blogger popularly known as Justice Crack, was arraigned before a Federal High Court in Abuja on May 4, 2026. His arrest followed a specialized operation involving the Nigerian Army and the State Security Service (SSS). According to an official statement by the Army’s Director of Public Relations, preliminary investigations revealed that Chidiebere had been engaging in digital discussions with soldiers that were deemed “subversive” and intended to incite discontent within the military ranks.
Specifically, the Federal Government filed a three-count charge against him, accusing him of cybercrime and the circulation of derogatory videos through his official X (formerly Twitter) handle. The prosecution alleged that these posts were likely to cause fear and a breach of public peace. The Army clarified that while the soldiers involved remained in military custody for disciplinary proceedings, the influencer was handed over to civil authorities for prosecution under the Cybercrimes Act.
The situation escalated on Monday, May 4, when angry youths reportedly blocked SSS operatives from whisking Chidiebere away from the court premises following his arraignment. Despite the protest, he was eventually remanded in custody. The case has sparked a heated debate regarding the boundaries of social media influence and national security, with civil rights activists calling for a transparent trial while the military maintains that inciting personnel is a “far-reaching threat to national discipline.”
